This special-topic course discusses the theory and application of gamma-ray spectroscopy systems for identification and quantification of radionuclides. Students will take home the tools and information they neeed to:
- Understand "phantom peaks
- Optimize gamma libraries to accurately identify and quantify nuclides present
- Reduce unidentified peaks
- Utilize methods for counting "hot" samples
- Understand "Dead Time" and its implications
- Analyze RCS spectra. Actual examples will be used in the bonus workshop on the third day of the course. Students are encouraged to bring their own examples to be examined as time permits.
